Nicholas M. Hutchinson is a founding partner at Johnston & Hutchinson LLP in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Hutchinson specializes in the management and trial of complex legal matters ranging from business disputes and insurance bad faith claims to catastrophic personal injury and medical negligence.
Mr. Hutchinson was consistently recognized as a Super Lawyer Rising Star by West Publishing from 2010-2015. He continues to be recognized as a Super Lawyer by West Publishing from 2016 to present, a distinction awarded to less than 5% of lawyers in California.
Additionally, Mr. Hutchinson has recovered significant verdicts and settlements for his clients over the course of his career. In 2015 Mr. Hutchinson obtained a 9.5-million-dollar recovery in a suit involving a pedestrian who was injured by a Los Angeles County bus. In 2014 Mr. Hutchinson obtained a 1.6-million-dollar recovery in a case involving medical negligence. In 2013 Mr. Hutchinson obtained a 4.35-million-dollar recovery in a suit involving personal injury and products liability. He was also co-counsel in a suit involving the theft of intellectual property that resulted in a jury verdict in excess of 25-million-dollars, which has been listed as one of the top verdicts in the United States on this issue. Additionally, he was responsible for the trial and claims administration of the landmark insurance bad faith cases arising from the Northridge earthquake (CCP 340.9) where he represented hundreds of clients and tried the first bellwether cases to jury from the coordinated actions.
Mr. Hutchinson is also deeply engaged in the professional community. He is a member of the State Bar of California, where he participates in the solo and small firm section, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Consumer Attorneys Association of California, and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.
