Partner

Nicholas M. Hutchinson is a founding partner at Johnston & Hutchinson LLP, where he specializes in the management and trial of complex legal matters — ranging from complex business disputes and insurance bad faith claims to catastrophic personal injury. With more than twenty years of trial experience in state and federal courts, his career has produced significant results for individuals and private organizations throughout California, all handled with the discretion and confidentiality his clients trust.

Mr. Hutchinson earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and has been admitted to practice in California since 2002. He has been consistently recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star by West Publishing from 2010 to 2015, and has continued to be recognized as a Super Lawyer from 2016 to the present — a distinction awarded to fewer than 5% of attorneys in California.

Among his most notable representations, Mr. Hutchinson was responsible for the trial and claims administration of landmark insurance bad faith cases arising from the Northridge earthquake (CCP 340.9), representing hundreds of clients and trying the first bellwether cases to jury from the coordinated actions. He has since been at the forefront of significant wildfire litigation in Southern California, most recently stemming from the devastating Woolsey and Eaton Fires. He currently serves on the Individual Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in the Eaton Fire litigation, venued in the Complex Division of the Los Angeles Superior Court. Over the course of his career, he has recovered numerous seven- and eight-figure verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients.

Mr. Hutchinson is deeply engaged in the professional community, holding memberships in the State Bar of California — where he participates in the Solo and Small Firm Section — the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Consumer Attorneys Association of California, and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.
